BBW plus Flash

January 23rd, 2010 No comments

It’s possible to enhance your basic business website with some very nifty flash applications. These take your page from basic to dynamic rather quickly. The greater percentage of internet users are now utilizing cable internet and with faster speeds flash applications load much quicker. Our latest project takes advantage of flash to enhance the site greatly without requiring a mysql database.

flash shopping cart on basic html business website

First we implemented a fully loaded flash shopping cart for our clients products page. This cart is customizable and the products, descriptions, and images are easily added thru an xml file. The cart is visually appealing and dynamic. It can calculate a handling fee, provide totals, allow shoppers to add or subtract multiple items, and direct them to your custom PayPal payment page where shipping and sales tax can be added. The advantage being that no personal data is collected by your website, however PayPal will collect it for you and send you an email with the information about any purchases.

Next we added a dynamic rolling, twisting, and turning flash header. A very customizable little clip that really makes the site “pop”. This banner code also allows for customizable text links to be embedded, is visually stimulating, and each banner can point to a different page, onsite or offsite, if desired.

flash contact us on html website

Lastly as we were finishing the site and reviewing the contact page our client expressed that she wished to protect her email from spammers. We were able to apply a simple flash contact form that collects the basic information and sends it to our client as well as sending a note to the sender that the message had been sent successfully.

Through this project we have seen how flash applications can fill the gaps where basic html can’t do the job without mysql database. In the future we hope to help more clients create attractive, dynamic, basic business websites with flash and html.

Content Management System or Basic Business Website?

October 28th, 2009 No comments

What kind of website will suit your needs the best? In this article we will compare and contrast the differences between a content management system(CMS) and a basic business website(BBW). CMS is a commonly known acronym while BBW is specific to a hand coded Targeted Services website built using html programming language but not including an online database.

Basic Business Website: If your business would be enhanced by a website but will remain relatively static then a BBW is likely a good choice for your business. Most businesses are well served by a simple static website that normally includes an about us page, a products or services page, and a contact us page where visitors can get in touch with you using either phone or hidden email address. When news or changes ARE needed they can be submitted to Targeted Services by email or phone.

Content Management System. Relying on a database a CMS is used to create dynamic and interactive websites. By keeping a blog or news feed up to date you can increase your sites ranking with search engines. CMS’s offer you more possibilities for collecting data, selling online, polling, forums, and other things that can’t be done without a database.

Add images to your posts and pages

August 26th, 2009 No comments

Adding images to your posts and pages in Wordpress is one of the few things I felt was not perfectly intuitive. Lets use a post as an example..

imagescreenshot

Go to Add New post under Posts. Give your new post a title, ie. test post. Now click in the WYSIWYG editor to put your cursor in the box. This is where your image will go. Above this text box you will see icons for editing your text and above that it says, “Upload/Insert” with four icons to the right. The first icon to the right of that is a small rectangle inside of a rectangle, click this icon.

A pop-up window opens and gives you some more choices. Lets select an image from your computer. Go ahead and click “Select Files”. Browse and find an image from your computer to place in the post and click on “Open”.

Almost done. Now we will choose where the image goes and how it looks.

Title, caption, description, and link URL we will leave alone for now. Near the bottom of the window you see an option called Alignment. Select how you want the image to be aligned. Below that you see an option for Size. If you want your image to be a standard (reduced) size select the option you want. Full size is selected by default.

** Important Do not click on “Save all changes” until inserting image into post. There is a button just below the Size selection called “Insert into Post”. Click “Insert into Post” and then you can click “Save all changes”.

Now your back to your post and hopefully you have your image sized and where you want it. Don’t forget to select Publish >> Update Post blue button before you go to check out your work! That’s it. The more you use it the more comfortable you will feel with it!
